I was wondering today - where has the Soul gone? In this day and age, it seems that all people care about are material possessions and their next rush of joy. Just switch on the television - almost every high-rated television show (except for the news) contains lewd behaviour and an extreme manifestation of greed.
Understanding the soul is pretty much undestanding the inate human-ness of being alive. The music of a society is also an expression of this understanding. Compare the musical histories of cultures that have experienced severe oppression and are on the mend (think of the African musical culture and also the culture of the African-Americans). You'll notice that there is a lot more depth to their music - a lot more emotion is poured into it.
Countries that were built upon teamwork and a dependence on others are also a lot more reliant on God. Faith is a lot stronger in places where it is not possible to outwardly proclaim a belief in Christ. In our fairness-centric society, our faith is so weak that we don't even want to call ourselves Christians in front of our peers or workplace.
End rant of the day.
